"Mi Burrito Sabanero" (My Little Donkey from the Savannah) is an aguinaldo, a traditional genre of music from Puerto Rico and Venezuela performed during the Christmas season by groups of families or friends who go strolling from house to house. This song was written by Hugo Blanco Manzo for the 1972 Christmas season. It tells the story of a child or young angel playing their cuatrico (a small four-string guitar) while riding their donkey to Bethlehem to visit the baby Jesus. It has been recorded by dozens of artists since then. Nearly 50 years later, it remains a favorite of the holiday season, cherished in Spanish speaking households worldwide.
This arrangement is in cut time, but could also be played in a fast 4/4. Mallet percussion parts can be doubled and/or played in octaves if more players are available.
